History, oh History- we keep meeting like this!! I'm sure by now you all are tired of hearing about my love/hate relationship with History- so I'll move quickly onto a new review I was given the opportunity to do via the Schoolhouse Review Crew.
A Thomas Jefferson Education is a cool resource that helps bring history to life for students. For this review, we were given a full subscription to the online program- This Week in History. As you might imagine, This Week in History is a subscription program that sends a wonderful bundle of information to your email inbox once a week with information about events that took place on the corresponding dates in history.
But- these are much more than just lists of information. In each email you can find pictures, links to additional resources, and even videos to complement the lessons. And the information is so interesting- not just boring facts, but stories about past events that are retold in a way that brings new life to them.
A Thomas Jefferson Education is a teaching philosophy that believes there are 7 keys to great teaching:
1- Classics, Not Textbooks
2- Mentors, Not Professors
3- Inspire, Not Require
4- Structure Time, Not Content
5- Quality, Not Conformity
6- Simplicity, Not Complexity
7- YOU, Not Them
I think these are great things for any teacher or teaching parent to take into consideration. I have always believed that simple, classic education with quality information that inspires my learners is the best way to teach. And the YOU in the equation is most important.
Here is some more information about A Thomas Jefferson Education:
