In her first published work, A Cry from Egypt, Hope Auer tells an inspiring story filled with love and hope from the perspective of a 12 year old slave girl in Egypt named Jarah.  Quoting biblical facts and scriptural references throughout this book, Hope weaves a tale overflowing with drama and suspense as well as any seasoned author.  Rather than filling the gaps of biblical history with fanciful thoughts and ideas, Hope did extensive research into the life and work of the Hebrews and Egyptians of the day and artfully wove her perspectives from that research into this story in a seamless way.

My husband and I, as Christian parents, have tried to offer our children media in the form of videos and books that will inspire greatness and spark a love for the Lord that will carry them through their childhood and beyond.  Finding items that fit that bill is a much more difficult process than we first imagined.  Many books we find are "fun" to read, but have little true historical backing and many videos we buy are entertaining, but not educational.

A Cry from Egypt was both historically accurate and amazingly inspiring to both of our young children.  The action scenes described in this book kept my 10 year old warrior boy on the edge of his seat and the sweet perspective of a young slave girl brought my 8 year old tenderhearted daughter to tears several times.  This mama was truly satisfied with this book  for several reasons- the knowledge my children gained in biblical history, the sparks of righteous indignation I saw spring forth in their hearts, and the FUN we had reading this book as a family.

From a homeschooling perspective, we were able to easily translate this book into many different areas of study including Hebrews and their traditions, maps and books about Egypt- the land and it's topography, and surprising to me, a few fairly in depth conversations about the influence that the society we live in can have on our view of the Lord and our choices in our faith.  The bold approach this book takes in looking at the many aspects of the Hebrews faith and how some were more affected by the Egyptians practices than others, gave us much food for thought and brought about conversations that I would not have thought I could have with my younger children.  It was beautifully astounding to me to see the events that unfolded so many, many years ago interpreted through their innocent and untainted thoughts.

Without a doubt, this is a must have for every family raising their children in the love of the Lord.  We will be purchasing the forthcoming books in this series and I feel sure these will be favorites of ours for years to come.

Well done, Hope, well done!!

PhotobucketHope Auer, a recent homeschool graduate and aspiring writer is the voice behind A Cry from Egypt.  Having written stories and plays for years, her first published work came from her desire for young people to have an accurate perception of biblical history.  Her quest to find true, inspiring christian fiction for herself at a young age, drove her passion for writing A Cry from Egypt and the additional books coming in her "The Promised Land Series".  In addition to writing, Hope can be found working with children in youth theater and teaching piano.
