With a budding super star in my midst daily, I am always on the lookout for resources that will encourage her talent without squashing her creativity. I was really excited when I found out the TOS Crew would be reviewing Teaching Kids to Sing CD/DVD set from The Vocal Coach. I knew this one would be great for us!!
The Vocal Coach was started by Chris and Carole Beatty, two talented teachers with over 40 years of vocal teaching experience. They love to share their knowledge of correct singing technique with others in hopes to encourage their passion for the art. They have created several resources to help people hone their talent and we were so happy to review the children's set- Teaching Kids to Sing. This set includes 2 DVD's and 1 CD and is geared toward children who are 5-13 years old, however I could see children younger and older benefiting from this series.
I was excited to start this review as we are planning to put my budding diva in theater classes in the spring and I thought this would be a great way to introduce her to voice techniques in a fun and inspiring way.
The DVD/CD set consists of:

I have to say I was very impressed with the scope of this program with the lessons spanning from posture, breathing, and tone to dictation, dynamics and even vocal health.
Once we received our package, I decided we would just start from the beginning and see where it would take us. There is a great homeschool section on the Vocal Coach website with suggestions of ways to incorporate this program into your school day, complete with tests and answer keys for additional study. We decided to take a more relaxed approach as I wanted this to be more fun and less work for my little one.
One thing I have noticed this year is our struggle to incorporate art and music into our homeschooling days. It seems that after we get all our "basics" completed there just simply isn't time to to the "fun" things I want to add in. I was happy to find this program was just the little dose of fun we needed to spice up our days again.
My little one really enjoyed working through this program. I loved the christian undertones in the lessons and songs and my daughter was happy to jump right in with the first lesson and sing her little heart out. The techniques that are taught in the lessons are solid and I can really tell a difference in my little one's singing, especially in the tone of her voice.
My sweet little diva has gone thorough two sparkly microphones so far while working through this program. Apparently singing without dancing is impossible for her and the dancing can get a little crazy!! LOL!!
We have taken the Accompaniment CD in the van with us for extra practice and it is often one of the first requested items when we get on the road. I feel like this program has been a great introduction to important singing techniques for her and I am confident that she has a much stronger basis for future lessons and classes in theater and voice.
